The Lonely Forest: Pioneers Of The Next Northwest Movement?

15 Mar

I came across The Lonely Forest back in the summer of 2008, on a Friday night in July. The band was playing at the Old Firehouse in Redmond along with other local acts like Speaker Speaker. They had an energetic and fun live show, so I happened to pick up their demo. Little did I know that two years later the band would be the first signees to Chris Walla’s (of Death Cab for Cutie) new record label. The band played shows seemingly anywhere, mostly at local teen centers, with hopes of creating a strong local following. This worked even better then expected, and the band became so successful that they sold out a show at the Showbox (Market) during 2010. The band has played Bumbershoot and folklife multiple times, Sasquatch! just last year, and is on tour as we speak. The “Arrows” EP was the first release on the new record label and seems to have a theme about the beauty of the northwest. Originally (and still) from Anacortes, the band has an unmeasurable pride for their hometown and how it has shaped them (just take a look at the album artwork for the album We Sing The Body Electric). I feel like I wouldn’t be doing the band justice if I failed to put two amazing acoustic videos on here, but I also want to show the everyone the full band’s sound, so… three videos it is. Look out music world, here comes The Lonely Forest.

Turn Off This Song and Go Outside: On the new EP, “Arrows”

We Sing In Time: Most popular song, from the album “We Sing The Body Electric”

Woe Is Me and I’m Ruined: Not officially released yet, but expect it on the next album?
